Wednesday Whiskey, enthusiasm for unrestrained simplicity!

By Glenn Fennema

2 weeks ago I had an appointment with Marijn Verschure. Marijn is the man behind Wednesday Whiskey. A brand new shoe brand, based in Tilburg, The Netherlands. We had plans for a short interview, eventually this ended up with lots of information, quotes and a little nip of whisky.

But first let me tell you something about the history of Wednesday Whiskey.

It was around the beginning of 2011 when Marijn visited a good friend, who worked and lived in Dublin. On 1 of those visits a Wednesday, he went for a guided tour in the Jameson Whiskey distillery. This ended at a local pub. It was here where Marijn discovered true whisky and what it meant to be drinking whisky. The next morning Marijn woke up with a huge hangover, but also with his new preference for whisky. At that moment the combination of workdays (especially Wednesday) and whisky formed the foundation of the brand nameHe didn't know how or with what to combine this to a product. Finally he came up with the idea for a shoe brand, due to his experience at former employer, Clarks.

At a certain moment in 2012 Marijn decided to realize that plan. He packed his suitcase and went to Porto, Portugal. There he went to a couple of factories to explain his plans. Halso asked the factories to makeone sample. After receiving all the samples, he decided to choose for a little factory. At that certain point he had the best feelings with those people. Marijn also needed a good slogan and marketing plan for Wednesday Whiskey. Together with a acquaintance he wrote dozens off words. They blot out all the words in which Marijn couldn't identify the brand. He finally ended up with 3 words, unrestrained, enthusiasm and simplicity. They created a short sentence with these words. Wednesday Whiskey. Enthusiasm for unrestrained simplicity.

With these words you can explain and describe the collection.

Now we’ll be making a big leap into time. It's the beginning of 2014. The different models hit the stores already.

At this moment there are 7 stores and 1 webshop in The Netherlands and 2 stores in Belgium.

At the 12th of February the brand will officially launch at Black Sheep Road in Amsterdam. So if you’re in the neighborhood, don't hesitate and visit the store.

For now I just want to thank Marijn for the great afternoon, his time and all of the information he has given. Also thanks to Leon van den Broek Fotografie for the great photos.

If you want more information about Wednesday Whiskey, visit their website or follow one of their social media channelshttp://wednesdaywhiskey.com

Let's end this with 3 facts.

1- Whiskey is written on the Irish/ American way.

2- The models are named after a whisky brand.

3- All of the materials are sourced in Europe.

For now. Thank you for reading and enjoy your day!

Goodday dear people and followers,

First off all we want to say we're sorry for the long time between our latest and newest post. Boris and me we're both to busy with school and work.

But we are back in business. And we found 3 new brands, all based in the netherlands.

First off is Heroes on socks.
Based in Amsterdam, Heroes on Socks (HOS) is a young sock label designed for the modern consistent gentlemen. HOS is a small label of innovative socks and innovative yarns based on old weaving technics and authentic machines. All the garments are made in Italy in the best factories.

They think that the humble sock is an essential part of a solid outfit.
HOS stands for quality, socks made by the best craftsmen's and the best yarns from Italy. HOS gives an authentic product a new approach and exposure, by merging this product with contemporary lifestyle influences as we know it today. Loving traditions and adoring the classic products, they appreciate the true artisans from around the globe.

They are not pretending to be a traditional fashion brand, they don't want to have a custom street approach. They are an individual collective, that are breathing this elements and are inspired by there  own heroes.

Next up is Moluccan Islands.

Finding inspiration in their passion for music, art, food, street, design, culture and people like you. They make quality goods for daily use. Pure, simple and subtile are the keywords for their collection.

The streets are their catwalks, just like, supermarkets, boulevards, trainstations, public spaces where people meet, eat, drink and having a good time.

Every garment is made with a commitment to bring you quality goods to make you feel comfortable all day.

To finish it. Don't let the name fool you. Moluccan Islands has no political meanings. They just want to connect people.

The last one is Wednesday Whiskey.
Wednesday Whiskey is a Dutch shoe brand for men, established in 2013 in Dublin, Ireland, based in Tilburg, The Netherlands and made in Porto, Portugal. A so called Multi-culti brand.

Wednesday Whiskey, named after the day and the first experience with Irish whiskey. Basic ingredients for this brand are simplicty, approaching new things, having the time of your life and friendship.

In a little factory just outside Porto, a small Wednesday Whiskey collection is manufactured with lots of care. A pair of mens shoes is made from only the best leathers and is crafted with as less adaptations possible.

The first collection will be launched for Spring Summer '14 and be available for consumers at beginning of 2014.

Check out their websites for more information, pieces and their collections.

Amsterdenim

By Glenn Fennema

A few weeks ago I was scrolling through the wonderful world of Instagram and I saw something which intrigued me.It was a picture of a new denim label, called Amsterdenim. From that point I have been seeking and put in some research. And the result was there; a website and little bit more information. I had some contact through mail and last Monday I finally had some phone contact with it’s founder Ben Fokkema.
Ben, a former employee of Lee Jeans and Scotch&Soda, is full of passion. Working with passion, feeling and with his heart, Ben is trying to get to positive things from people and his work.At Scotch&Soda he was one of the persons who put it’s own philosophy in the jeans department. Despite a rough start the jeans department went to be a success. From that point Ben decide to put a plan to work and release hit own label. He was using the name Amsterdenim already since 2007. So it was a easy 1-2-3 to use this as his label name.

At this moment the intention is to release Amsterdenim  next year February/March. So you can find it around July/August 2013 in stores. The first collection will consist of 1 denim jacket, 2 shirt and 3 jeans. The 3 jeans will all be having a different fit.
After this the plan is to change the washings on the jeans, but the fit will be the same. So if you ever need a new pair of jeans, you know exactly which one you need. The jeans will have a clean but raw look. So you can wear it casually but also dressed.

Ben told me that he has visited a good amount of stores. The majority of the stores were enthousiastic with the samples they have seen. I can't tell you the names of the stores which will be selling Amsterdenim. But I can tell you for certain that the shops, which Ben mentioned me, are top of the class. Amsterdenim will first only be sold in The Netherlands. But there are some plans to go to other countries. But when is not certain yet.

The last thing I want to share with you guys are some interesting facts.Ben tried to connect the history of Amsterdam with the modern jeans. To keep the connection with the past, they will used the old brown sails for the hangtags and the inner pocket will have the same old brown collar. The recognizable details, are the dark blue-yarn, used for the stitching, the wooden-buttons and it’s logo. The logo of Amsterdenim is reflected in the pointed roofs, the 3 crosses, bridges, canals, the centre, the name.

Amsterdenim is Amsterdam. Amsterdam, denim capital of the world. They give you the opportunity to buy a piece of history and a piece of Amsterdam.
